Safety and Privacy are treated with the utmost importance at Uville - we understand that you want your children safe when they're online. We think the best way to do that is to share the responsibility with you. We've built in an arrary of safety precautions into the Uville experience, and feel that it's our responsiblity to ensure those safe gaurds are in place and that it's your responsibility to reinforce those ideas with your child at home. Let's take a look at how that works:
Our Responsibility
Registration is required
All users must be registered as a citizen to play on the Uville website. Registration is quick, easy and free.
Usernames are anonymous
A username is the only online identifier for a citizen or member of Uville. The username is the only personal piece of information that is seen by others on the screen. Users are not permitted to use their real name (or any version of their name) as a username. Why? Because we think that this rule not only keeps your child safe but allows them to be creative when thinking up a new, unique name! We also instruct children not to share their password and secret question with anyone besides their parents.
Chatting is Safe
The potential harm from chatting is controlled by a menu-based chat system. Children are only able to chat using pre-defined statements that we've selected. There is no free-form typing allowed, so you can feel 100% safe that your child isn't going to accidentally share private information.
Personal Contact is Impossible
Private discussions, through email or chat, are simply impossible at Uville. Private chatting or messaging is not a part of the Uville experience.
There are Rules
Uville citizens must abide by a few simple rules to keep things safe and fun. They are:
1. Keep private things private!
2. Get your Parents Involved!
3. Have Fun!
Parent or Guardian Responsibility
Review the Rules
Review the Uville rules with your child during registration, and periodically after that. Explain to your child that rules are there protect children and make the experience safe and fun. This is a great opportunity to talk about the dangers of the internet, especially the sharing of personal information.
Remember: Keep private things private!, Get your Parents Involved!, and Have a ball!
Supervise Play
Ask your child about how he or she spends time online, and use this as a great chance to talk about some general internet safety precautions, such as:
- Never give anyone your personal information
- Passwords should only be shared with the parent or guardian
- Encourage your child to let you know if something is said or done online that doesn't seem to be right.
- Choose a username that won't identify you.
- Only use chat that is predetermined on a safe website.
NetSmartz.org is a great resource if you'd like to learn more about keeping your child safe online.
Privacy is Important
We're concerned about your and your child's privacy, and have taken measures to ensure that information we do collect is kept strictly confidential. During the registration process, we collect your child's:
chosen username, password, secret question and answer, first name, birth year. If provided during a "citizen" registration, we also collect a parent's email address. A parent's email is required for the "member" registration.
So what do we do with that information? We use birth year to average the age of our users to ensure that our content is age appropriate. And, we use the parent's email to send website information and confirmations of any monetary transactions on the site. For more detailed information, please refer to our Privacy Policy.
